Thumbnail sizes for different platforms
Pixel dimensions and aspect ratio are separate decisions. Pixel dimensions define the size of the visual file; aspect ratio defines the shape of the frame. When adapting a thumbnail for another platform, preserving only the pixel count does not prevent cropping, empty space, or an unsuitable hierarchy.

Why aspect ratio changes the composition
A horizontal layout distributes elements from side to side; a vertical layout needs to organize the reading flow from top to bottom; a square reduces the available distance between the subject, text, and supporting elements. Stretching the image distorts shapes, while simply cropping it may remove essential information.
Treat each adaptation as a new framing of the same idea. Preserve the promise, the subject, and the identity cues, but allow position, scale, and text wrapping to change. This maintains consistency without requiring every file to be geometrically identical.

- Vertical: reorder the elements and consider a more compact text block.
- Square: simplify the scene and reassess overlaps.

Build an editorial safe area
Interfaces may overlay labels, duration, avatars, buttons, or automatic crops in positions that vary by context. Because the file does not fully control these conditions, keep essential text and details away from the edges and check the preview in the actual destination.
No universal margin solves every use case. Create an internal safe area in your visual system, give the face or main object enough room, and avoid relying on a small corner badge to complete the message.

Conduct a technical review before exporting
Confirm the selected platform key, the resulting dimensions, and the file orientation. Then look for resampled images with poor sharpness, jagged edges, text outside the frame, and colors that lost contrast after adaptation.
Keep a master file when further editing may be needed, and name outputs with the platform, aspect ratio, or dimensions. This discipline reduces the risk of publishing the right format on the wrong channel and makes it easier to reproduce the adaptation when the layout changes.
